| Introduction | Last time I wrote one of these I said 'urbane hillbilly via mega urbanite, artist, pre-grunge, new wave hairdresser, farm boy, plant nerd'. I might be inclined to add pragmatic mystic, forest gnome, animist, neo-pagan (though we'd need to define that carefully..). I started out as a country boy, and although my leanings were not typical of the area, I had no desire to move to the city. However, I also didn't see ready opportunities for me on the farm, so move I did! Turns out big city life actually did suit me, and I lived in several of them for two and a half decades. I was ready for a change and my mother needed help, so back I came in 2007.. the next stage is not yet clear, I still have attachments to both rural and urban life, and not sure where I will find the balance... My art explores some similar issues-- the forces and faces of nature and how humanity relates to them, how they are expressed in us- archetypes, mythology etc.. Meanwhile I garden, collect seeds, cut firewood, take too many photos, and enjoy the beauty all around... |
