Location | Marquette, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, United States |
Introduction | An investigative reporter in northern Michigan and Augusta, GA for over 35 years including TV, radio, newspaper. I'm volunteer media advisor for The Earth Healing Initiative, The Zaagkii Wings and Seeds Project (Youth protecting pollinators, promoting native plants), The EarthKeeper Initiative, The Turtle Island Project, The Manoomin (Wild Rice) Project - all interfaith environment projects in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, founded (or co-founded) by Rev. Jon Magnuson, director of the nonprofit Cedar Tree Institute. I help promote the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission (NELM) in remote Rock Point, AZ where my good friend Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard is executive director; his wife Deborah Haffner Hubbard is pastor of the NELM House of Prayer. The NELM follows a "Mission in Reverse" model where respect for Navajo Culture, Heritage and Teachings are stressed by the Hubbards. I'm a Great Lakes correspondent for Indian Country Today newspaper/magazine and have written articles for USA Today. For a decade, I was east Georgia correspondent for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. I am also a member of the Delta Chi fraternity. |
Interests | Protecting the environment and fighting for civil rights of those who would be denied by others. I love to fish for trout, walleye, pike, bass. I enjoy the U.P. partridge and deer hunting seasons including muzzle loading. I only shoot trophy bucks and believe in the idea promoted by many hunters: "Let 'em Go, Let 'em Grow." |
Favorite movies | Blues Brothers, most horror and comedy movies. |
Favorite music | Rev. Terence A. Dicks and I were honored to be co-organizers of James Brown Appreciation Day in Augusta in 1986, when 5,000 people honored the Godfather of Soul on the shores of the Savannah River in part due to promos recorded by Casey Kasem and help from Dick Clark. It was the first time the city had honored Mr. Brown, who is now leading a Heavenly Choir. I'm glad to see in his final years that Augusta was finally learning to appreciate the "Godfather of Soul." Mr. Brown taught me to be positive and take the high road even when others are not including those who may try to derail my plans and efforts. 60s and 70s real Rock'N'Roll, Soul Music, and Country Music, including "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynard, all Jimmy Buffett songs, James Brown, most 60-70s music. I hate disco and heavy metal. |
Favorite books | Illusions, Jonathon Livingston Seagull, The Bible, A Night to Remember. |
