| Introduction | I'm a writer who lives in Los Angeles. I'm fortunate enough to have a talented and supportive husband and an equally talented and loving nine-year-old son. I used to think that getting published was the best thing that could happen, it was the one thing I wanted more than anything. And it's pretty great. But with my first book, DRIVING WITH DEAD PEOPLE, at the bookstores, I'm realizing that publishing is a very small part indeed compared to the learning that comes with writing my most personal stories and then letting them loose in the world. I've been elated and terrified and proud. But I'm right in the middle of learning something enormous. I can't even see what it is yet. But I know that publishing was only the tiniest step toward a journey that wasn't at all about seeing my book at Barnes and Noble. I'm in the middle of the most important storm of my life so far, and I'm curious who I'll be when the clouds clear. It's uncomfortable, it's scary, and it's necessary. That's me, right now. |
