| Introduction | I celebrated my 80th birthday, July 16, 2023. Inside I still feel like 40. I used to be 5 feet 10 inches tall, but I’ve shrunk two inches. I was a fashionista in my younger days, but now I prefer flowing tops that flatter. I was married over 60 years to the same man, Steve, who I lost in January and still miss and love very much. We’ve moved 14 times causing our five children to say we’re nomads, although we did have the good sense to stay in Evanston for 18 years so they could enjoy stability and lasting friendships. I’ve been a teacher, museum director, family support center director, art dealer, and a co-creator and director of ALS Worldwide, a not for profit organization that supports persons with ALS.. I wouldn’t change much about the roller coaster journey we’ve been on and I don’t have many regrets. We’ve weathered more than a few storms, including fire, grief and death, which I write about with abandon. Through it all, I’ve managed to maintain a sense of humor that keeps me sane. I like to say we are living our last chapter but who knows? Writing stories about my journey makes life sparkle for me. |
