Introduction Empowering Rural Women (ERW) is an innovative program journey in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. It started in December 2007. It is being implemented with rights-based approach in 9 districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh in partnership with local small CSOs. People’s Action for National Integration-PANI provides the technical and handholding support and the program is supported by the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust-SDTT, Mumbai. As part of the program; 80, 436 women from marginalized communities have formed collectives in 666 Gram Panchayats of 36 blocks, which is called Nari Sangh. They are working towards claiming their entitlements with emphasis on right to work and right to food. The program is highly successful in terms of outreach and outputs. They are claiming their rights over the political and social space.
