Introduction Hi, my name is Jerry “Jake” Seabaugh. I grew up in a furniture shop. At 15, I said no more sanding and stripping and walked up the road to a local landscape nursery to chop weeds and mow grass. I worked for the same company through high school and college. Then after spending some time in the Air Force, I came back to landscaping, and stayed in the business for the next 25 years. I’ve been a landscaper, nursery manager, tree farmer, a tree climber, and for a time, I was one of the Directors of the Columbus Bonsai Society. I have since moved on to less physically demanding endeavors. But I have always enjoyed the creative-construction and ornamental-sculptured pruning. Over the years, my creative outlets have shifted to designing and building landscape planters and wooden features. Unlike Bonsai, and sculptured ornamentals, they don’t die in the winter, or have to be pruned several times a year. Once they leave the shop, they are on their own! So, for the past 30 years, with the help of every episode of This Old House and The New Yankee Workshop, and the tool departments of every woodworking store in town, I have been happily making lots of saw dust in my garage.
