| Introduction | I am the mother of a boy with severe intellectual and physical disabilities, and I chose to place my son in a residential placement, an intermediate nursing facility in southern California, when my son was twelve-years-old. Two years later, I live with the positives and negatives of this decision and believe that placing my son in the care of others saved my life. When I bring my son home every-other-weekend, I focus on his needs and his well-being, and it reminds me of how his care is truly around-the-clock and never-ending. This blog started out as something different and is now how I share how difficult it is to be the parent of a teenage son with the most severe of special needs. |
