| Introduction | My heart is from Cracow. There I have a home with seven windows and a view over the smoggy sky. Cracow - the spleen city. Bars. Universities. The city of intellectual superiority. Biggest affront and unimaginable shame to experience there? Being called a nouveau riche. My Cracow madeleine moment? Sharing piece of bread and sausage from a discount store, with my best friend, 4am, Slowacki Theatre stairs, The Holy Spirit square. I now live in Amsterdam. Here are the memories of other homes I’ve had: one that smelled like cookies, one being watched by Japanese tourists, one with octopus in the window, the canal house that happened together with a very hot summertime, kids jumping into the water and calling me ‘mevrouw’. I remember times without internet. Millenials? They were a deadly disco to my soul, mate! Army of snowflakes, that destroyed the good old belief system: "in order to earn money you have to do your job well". Speaking of - I’ve always worked in a creative business – yet there are two jobs that I remember the most – talking about soul music in a pirate radio station and cleaning the floors in a shabby restaurant in Ireland, county of Cork. |
