Introduction	I received my PhD in American History from Rutgers University in 2010. My dissertation was about the transformation of love and marriage in the mid-nineteenth to early-twentieth century in America. I used old personal advertisements to talk about this transformation, and I've found them so charming and fascinating that I want to share them with anyone who's interested in learning more about the history of personals. I've now left the academic world and moved into the private sector, so never published my dissertation - but that is a dream I still have for the future!
