| Introduction | Celia proclaims her difficulty verbally expressing the thoughts that float through her brain and out of her heart for as long as she can remember. Art has become her primary tool in communicating her most zealous of thoughts. Art flows through her veins and is permanently apart of her state of mind. She considers art to be her therapy; her escape from the feeling of inadequacy. A common motif found in Celia’s art is the sun and moon because it symbolizes balance, a major theme and ponder in her labor. The struggle she goes through in discovering: who is she, what she stands for, where she belongs in this big world, and how she can find balance among all these contemplations is reiterated by focusing on objects that cause her to reflect on the bigger ‘picture’. Celia’s artistic endeavors are created via: paintings (mainly acrylic; some watercolor), drawings/ sketches (pencil, colored pencil, marker, and pen), collages, photography, pyrography, and scrapbook pages. |
