About me

IntroductionThis is a blog, written and edited by me, Vicki Samuels. My husband Sam, and people who have crewed on Britannia, and been inspired by her during our guardianship - between 1973 and 1995, will also be contributing. Britannia had a couple of owners after we sold her in 1995, but in 2013, by a fluke of destiny, we got her back, not in a good state, so we are now in the process of saving her and restoring her for a second time! We donated her to the Britannia Sailing Trust which we set up ourselves and we remain Trustees, - the primary aim is to preserve her and get her sailing again. . We want to showcase this wonderful vessel that is a major part of our Maritime History. She is registered with the National Historic Ships and is one of only 64 boats left that have a connection with the First World war. We are now fundraising to restore her, with the intention that when she starts sailing again, she will be used to raise public awareness to the damaging effects that climate change and pollution are having on our seas, the lifeblood of our planet. We will also teach seafaring skills, and give fun and enjoyment to future generations.
