The first time you had your shoes taken off - how surprised were you to see that you still had toes?
It was a shock, let me tell you. But pretty soon, I realized that my toes were still there every time. That's when I realized I had achieved Piaget's stage of object permanence and I wept with joy and wiggled my toes victoriously with great delight.
