| Introduction | I, Holly Hampden Herring, am on a quest to make the perfect pot. When this occurs, what has seemed a varied and sundry life will finally coalesce into a tangible product of a seemingly master plan. My pursuits have included Art History and Chemistry at UNC, archaeometry in Oxford, aimless wandering in Italy, slide cataloging, pottery shard numbering, a SFSU geography master's thesis on serpentinite, soil lab analysis in Wisconsin, digital cartography, and submarine floor mapping. Recently I have had ceramics classes at the New Hampshire Institute of Art and at RISD. Most of the places I have lived have had places where I could do pottery. I have lived in Villanova PA, Greenville SC, Charlotte, Monroe, Hendersonville and Chapel Hill NC, Oxford UK, East Glacier MT, Siena, Avellino and Naples Italy, Abiquiu NM, Stony Point, Manhattan and Brooklyn NY, San Francisco and San Carlos CA, Madison WI, Corvallis OR, and finally Norwood and Arlington MA. Just to round things out, my husband lived in St Louis MO, Houston TX and Los Angeles CA before meeting me in a park in Cody WY and moving with me to SF the day before the 1989 earthquake. We are near Boston for now. |
