Introduction AI was inaugurated in Sierra Leone in January 1982 in a small village called Kambia, around Lungi in the Northern Province but gained section status in 1989 and remained active throughout the ten years civil war. AI Sierra Leone maintains a broad membership of an estimated 1200 of more than sixty groups pre-groups and schools clubs in the four regions of the country. The section has five senior staff (Director, Campaigns and Growth Coordinator, Finance and Administrative Manager and National Human Rights Education Coordinator and Demand Dignity Coordinator and two Junior staff (Office Secretary and Receptionist.) The section has a governance body (National Council) of eleven members, elected every two years from amongst the membership with two co-options (the immediate past chair and an external)
