| Introduction | Computers have been at the centre of my working life from the very start. I have seen many great advances over the years and can safely say none greater than the World-Wide-Web the great linking force that is at the centre of the communications age. Working at such an exciting time in the technological development of the world has truely been amazing especially as I have had the opportunity to work in so many different industries and business sectors. All the time one thing that struck me was the stretch on development applied by the ‘users’. These were the people who always wanted more. They knew what was coming down the development track, and they wanted it now and at a price that they set. Nothing has changed. Today people like you want to be able to interact freely with the cohort of potential customers – and you want to do it now and not over spend. I’ve seen it all before: the great systems that add tremendous value, the lemons that cost a fortune and delivered nothing but headaches, the overruns on deadlines and/or cost, and the invariable oversell – big on promises but short on delivery. |
