Heavy Metal Runners' Coalition
My blogs
| Introduction | The Heavy Metal Runners' Coalition was founded in the spring of 2008 with the intention of raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Members of the coalition run in local races wearing T-shirts that advertise the coalition. Most of the members choose to listen to heavy metal while training, but all are lovers of music. The Coalition encourages a healthy lifestyle, a love for music, and a giving heart to help in researching cancer. The concept was developed by founder Tim Vacek in memory of his father Richard B. Vacek Jr., who passed away in 2002 after a year long battle with brain cancer. The two elements of the coalition (heavy metal and running) both have family significance. Dick Vacek was a runner all his life and ran a marathon less than a month before Tim Vacek was born. One of the most sacred bonds between Tim Vacek and his brother Jeff Vacek is the musical connection they share. Thus, the Heavy Metal Runners' Coalition was born. |
