| Introduction | I’m broken, characterized by self-centeredness, dependency on others and insecurity. I want to know I’m smart and worth something so I pursue knowledge to prove my value. But my value is not in what I do. I’m worth something because the God of Abraham has made me in his likeness. And though rejecting God deserves punishment, God entered humanity in Jesus to suffer my punishment and give new life. I’m so bad that Jesus had to die but so loved that he was glad to. I’m identified with Jesus and included in the family of those God has rescued. My empathy, creativity, faithfulness, hard work, sacrificial service and gifts of teaching, discipling and studying are no longer enslaved to the need of acceptance and approval. I’m free to love people in joyful service knowing my acceptance before God is secure in Jesus. Though I am blessed with a perceptive mind, writing/speaking skills and desire for intellectual engagement, I’m also stubborn, dominating and cold/distant. But despite my weaknesses and sins I trust that God’s grace is sufficient to maintain integrity and to enable me to serve his church faithfully. It’s my passion to pursue pleasure in God thru Jesus for the rest of my days. |
