| Introduction | I'm a man who finds himself living in the wrong time and place. I love to learn for its own sake; I practice self-restraint rather than self-indulgence; I believe in limited government and the rule of law; I act on reflection rather than impulse; I cherish personal freedom and personal responsibility; I recognize the difference between truth and falsehood, as well as between good and evil; I regard history and my ancestors as fundamental parts of who I am and how I should live; I believe there is more to life than self-gratification; and I do not consider tolerance of depravity a virtue. In all these ways and more, I do not fit into the modern world, which is hostile to me and my kind. In short, I'm a remnant of the type of people who build and maintain civilization.
