| Introduction | Come from a long line of educated Kentucky crackers who valued family, tobacco, the written word, and music - probably not in that order. Somehow I ended up living in New York with a foreigner and a PhD - in that order. |
| Interests | Spreading joy and happiness in my wake, oh and pudding. |
| Favorite movies | The one with that actor, you know, tall . . . often wears pants, Apocalypse Now, Duck Soup, the best movies on war and the human condition ever made |
| Favorite music | bluegrass - described by a young Italian woman I once knew as "hillbilly jazz" can't do better than that, and "regular" jazz with a particular affinity for the plinking genius that is Thelonius, Right I'm a cool New York liberal academic so World Music |
| Favorite books | Though I don't read at the clip of some of my friends I am an omnivore when it comes to my habits. A (terribly) small offering: Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow", Bourdieu's "Distinction", I was recently surprised by the cement suppleness of Updike's "Rabbit Series", The only Kingsley worth it "Lucky Jim", Foucault's seminal "Discipline and Punish", the work of Vollmann often leaves me agog, give me almost anything from Waugh, is there a better book in creation than Dostoyevsky's "Crime and Punishment", one of the few books I have read repeatedly unbidden Eco's "Foucault's Pendulum - I just realized that I could simply keep going if I don't stop so for all those who I missed as the music swelled let me say that I love you all and that you're all very important to me |
