Introduction UNICEF is part of the United Nations. Its goal is to serve the world's children. UNICEF is the world’s leading child rights advocacy organization. UNICEF has 160 country offices, one of which is UNICEF Timor-Leste. UNICEF Timor-Leste was formalized in 1999, right after Timor-Leste chose to be independent from Indonesia. UNICEF Timor-Leste supports programmes in health, education, water and sanitation, education, child protection and child participation. To do this, UNICEF works in partnership with the Government and with local organizations, faith-based groups and communities. UNICEF cooperation aims to help all Timorese children grow up healthy and well nourished in loving homes. The partnership also aims to have all children enjoy nine years of quality basic education. UNICEF also strives to help ensure that Timorese children live in communities that protect them from all forms of violence or neglect.
