| Introduction | I love to cook. I love to eat. And I love to share recipes and talk about cooking. I collected the family recipes and published a cookbook. It turns out I wasn’t that great at transferring my knowledge. What seemed obvious to me, wasn’t. I got a few phone calls that started with “Mom, you know that recipe in the cookbook? You didn’t write what to DO with the ingredients. What do I do next?” The family cookbook is now being copiously annotated and the 2nd edition is in the works. >In the meantime the suggestion was “Mom, you should do a blog”. I’m not a big fan of following directions and family lore has it that I can never cook something the same twice. Maybe a blog will help me keep track. >When I cook a meal and don’t know exactly where it’s going, I’ll start by chopping an onion and the rest seems to naturally follow - thus the name of this blog. I think it will still be ok to include desserts that don’t use onions. > And so, for my daughters, my surrogate daughters, and a nephew who all love cooking and eating – just start with an onion. |
