Introduction	I saw my first Tour de France from a mountaintop campsite in Alsace when I was 15. The publicity caravan included a Marlboro car that tossed free samples to the crowd, which seemed incongruous to me, and the race went by in a few seconds, which led me to quiz my French friends about why we had hiked all that way to see it. Little did I know I would expend a lot more energy covering eight straight as a journalist someday. This blog is a place for me to download the quirky little things that go along with driving 3,000 miles in three weeks to follow one of the most unique and controversial sporting events in the world. I'll be filing to ESPN.com, the Boston Globe, the Oregonian and other newspapers regularly starting July 14 when the race enters the Alps.
