| Introduction | I grew up in the Florida Keys and went to school at Florida State University, where I received my PhD in Russian history. My dissertation, which I defended in May 2010, was on the identity of Alaska's mixed-race population (called Creoles) during the 1800s. I just finished my first year as a history professor at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois. I teach classes in World, American, and Middle Eastern history. My first year at RVC was very challenging and rewarding. While I miss my friends from Florida, I'm fortunate to have taught a group of great students. Happy to have made it through the fall and spring semesters, I wanted to return to Alaska. |
