The Not So Great Depression

Introduction	We're a couple living in northern New England who have been preparing (though not nearly well enough) for economic doom for the last year. He works as a writer and mostly takes care of the chickens; she takes care of the pigs and garden (we split goat-milking duties). We have two teen-age boys who are, of course, horrified by all of this -- but who would confess under torture that we're in a lot better shape in rural New England than we were living in the Washington suburbs (1990-91, and again in 2005-06) or the New York suburbs (1997-01).
