Introduction Hi, I'm the author of When the Whistle Blows (formerly titles How To Stop a Moving Train), a middle grade novel edited by Patricia Lee Gauch that's coming out with Philomel Books in June, 2009. The process of getting a book accepted for publication is a wild ride! And I'm finding out that having a manuscript accepted is just the beginning of the process. Join me in my countdown to publication as I share the many lessons I'm learning about the publishing and bookselling worlds. Here I'll share my hopes, dreams, frustrations and tips on book marketing, as well as interviews with children's book industry professionals, and other children's book news. “[When the Whistle Blows] is a growing up novel that includes scenes reminiscent of Richard Peck's Long Way from Chicago and has a classical mannerism that will steam its way on to state award lists all over the country. . . This novel is fresh, smart, witty, warm, well-written, funny. . . an amazing novel.” —School Library Journal’s Diane Chen, (American Library Association board member)
