| Introduction | Varma was State Campaign Coordinator of LOK SATTA. He was elected as the first Gen. Secretary of Lok Satta Party. His able leadership turned LOK SATTA into mass movement-it spread to all districts with units in majority of mandals and thousands of villages. The campaign for disclosing electoral candidate details Praja Ballot was a huge success & caught the imagination of India. He played a central role in conceiving and leading the historic Movement for Empowerment of Local Governments & the 1-crore signatures campaign for empowerment of panchayats and municipalities. He was earlier an active grassroots-based leader of the left-wing movement for over 30 years. He was a reputed mass leader & a popular state student leader. Later he continued to serve in the key areas of primary education and universal sanitation. He is especially renowned for his adherence to true internal democracy in politics. He is a native of Tanuku, WG dist. He is also a reputed newspaper columnist & media analyst of political and policy affairs. He also edits Jaateeya Spurthi a Telugu current affairs fortnightly. |
