Introduction	Began covering college baseball in 1981 as a student — watching a San Diego State team that included four future major league players (Tony Gwynn, Bobby Meacham, Al Newman and Mark Williamson) and a major league umpire (Kerwin Danley). That began an association with the game that lasted throughout a 25-year newspaper career. Traveled the Road to Omaha (1,604 miles from San Diego) on 10 occasions to cover the College World Series for various local and national publications.
