| Introduction | Quirky Works Studio is the creative outlet of Martha Heneghan and Karen Katz, two friends who live in Cooperstown, NY, who decided that sewing with cheerful vintage fabric made the dreary winters go by a lot faster! Martha has always enjoyed creating, whether it was sewing, quilting, painting, or pottery. Karen has been a collector of cast-off things her whole life. She overcame her fear of sewing machines during a long Upstate New York winter, and began refashioning clothing. The duo spends about half of the year refashioning and recycling found and vintage items, and the other half “hunting and gathering” at thrift stores, consignment shops, and church sales (our favorite!). Plus, we usually have dinner on the table, and we get our kids where they need to be. We really love creating our Quirky Works, even though they are perfectly imperfect! Finding a bit of forgotten fabric, and matching it with a length of trim that was languishing in an old sewing box, and making something new, unique, and wearable is a huge thrill – it only gets better when just the right person finds the piece and takes it home with them! |
