| Introduction | Amela Subasic was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her father was an architect with good drawing skills, and it was he who encouraged her to draw and paint from an early age. She graduated from Sarajevo School of Applied Arts and Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Sarajevo (B.F.A.), majoring in painting. After a short time of teaching, she moved to Belgium, learning Dutch and Flemish culture for five years. While in Belgium, she traveled all over Europe and to Africa exploring different languages and cultures, as well as seeing many original paintings directly in European museums. After living in Belgium for a few years, she immigrated to Canada, to Vancouver, British Columbia, where she currently lives and works. |
