Introduction In Sir Philip Sidney's "A defense of Poesy," he defended the importance of reading poetry. He described how the ancient Romans referred to the poet as 'vates' (pronounced VAH-tace), which literally means 'prophet' or 'seer'. In those times, the traveling bards controlled the reputations of those they favored or disliked. A poet's power over words affected the world around him and the future, making him a sort of prophet. In addition, while every other trade creates out of previous creation, the poet holds the power to create heroes and monsters never before imagined. I hope my poetry and thoughts will help you see the world in a new way.
