About me

Introduction I grew up on a family farm in central Kansas. We grew wheat and a few other cash crops, and we had cows, chickens, pigs, a well, an orchard, garden, and a wonderful little woods. Yet among all this I wanted to play the bassoon! While I attended music school at Wichita State University I played in the Wichita Symphony, and then after graduating got a job in the San Diego Symphony, where I played for 17 years. In 1996 I joined the New York Philharmonic as their contrabassoonist. It has turned out to be the most fascinating career I can imagine!
