IntroductionFrom the moment I was born on the Anglo-French island of Guernsey, I wanted to be a writer. I grew up in the Midlands where my father, Harry Brown, was a sports columnist on the local evening paper. Two years later I was standing outside Blackpool Winter Gardens on my first job as a cub reporter. 'Mr Davies?' I yelled at the press officer. 'Not now,' he said, brushing me aside. 'I'm waiting for the chap from the Gazette.' I am the chap from the Gazette,' I replied. The rest, as they say is, well, history.
