| Introduction | May be this is not a blog!!! Often, my musings have these urges to be loud....about the unfinished business of real life...... about philosophy....about my cultural observations of a 21st century society.... and this post-modern life with all its wicked swings....! On a serious note, this is a blog that is meant to be the vehicle of my thoughts to connect with friends and like minded people..... The whole idea is to get chatting.... and that is why some of the posts might vary from flatly dry to dryly ironic to jarringly blunt....! "Historian of Ideas" can be my usual label, but not a wholly accurate one.....! I guess, the term Philosopher would describe me better... The writings on this blog would fit better in the framework of an opinion column...a heart on the sleeve kind of journalism... rather than the fact toting kind... I have no monopoly of deeper truths in life but the right to react to life's twisted sense of irony is entirely mine.. and you will see this right pouring forth sometimes as satire and epigrams... |
| Interests | Vedic Literature, Quantum Phsysics-may be because both of them talk about singularity. |
| Favorite movies | Since the time I got married my wife decides what do I view-not much choice I have here either.................In my batchelor days I had some favourites like Braveheart, Born on the 4th of July etc........War movies still excite me though......... Flags of our fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima have been the two last war epics I saw.......... Works by Oliver Stone and Martin Scorcese fascinate me.....I really empathize with the Protagonist in Born on the 4th of July......The way the Protagonist re-integrates himself towards the end....resonates with me almost as a quasi-personal narrative.... I have also been infuenced by The Matrix Trilogy. I think the way the Wachowski Brothers have tried to explore the nature of reality, is very very thought provoking. |
| Favorite music | Mostly folk rock and country....John Denver is an ever favorite.... Dylan for his lyrics but not his voice.... Off lately I am dabbling into hip hop and pop rock..... Duran Duran and Bruce Springsteen are just freaking good.... I guess, R&B too has found me... Have been listening to Alternative Rock for as long as I remember... I have begun to like rap as well. I sense that there is a lot of angst and unspoken anger in those lyrics. Rap to me is the poetry of existential dilemmas. I have a fascination for the kind of fusion music that Rahman plays, and this band which we call as the Indian Ocean. Their percussions, unconventional guitaring and high pitched vocals are just my kinda music. |
| Favorite books | Not favourite, but this is what I am currently reading... Fool's Gold by Gillian Tett.... and Moral Man and Immoral Society by Reinold Niebuhr...Niebuhr to me is truly the philosopher of our times..... Within the Management and Business Domain, I really find the writings of CK Prahalad...... Post Drucker, I think he is the seminal thinker of our times..... Hopefully, I get to work with him later this year...... I also like the writings of Michael Porter, Ted Levitt and Clayton Christiansen...... In Econometrics I have liked the works of Prof Leonard M Lodish.... and in Cognitive Sciences, the works of Howard Gardener..... Tha Isa Upanishad is always nearby.....Have just stumbled over the Grand Opus of Gaudapada-The Mandukya Upanishad...... Within Physics Works of Werner Heisenberg/Stephen Hawking/Roger Penrose/Paul Dirac.....is something that I read and re read... In poetry I like the works of P B Shelley-I think Shelley's songs have a certain hurt to them, that I identify with....Poetry of Robert Frost is so sublime and of course who can forget Alexander Pope.... I also like the verse of Somerset Maugham, Jerome K Jerome, O Henry, Premchand, Jayashankar Prasad and Mythili sharan Gupt. Had I been a writer/author, I would have loved to be like Mark Twain or Oscar Wilde. Their sense of sarcasm is so sublime! Works of His Holiness Ramakrishna Paramhansa. And yes, Ayurveda by Robert Svoboda and Astrology by none other than His Majesty-The Great Saint Parashara. |
