In California, she worked as a teacher in a drug and alcohol rehab program for adolescents. She next worked as an elementary school principal for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District in Alaska, and later as the early childhood principal at Hong Kong International School (seven years). Although retired, Jan keeps busy with GED tutoring and writing.
