Introduction Antonio Celaya is a composer and singer living in Oakland, California with his wife, Karla Sagramoso and his daughter Adriana Celaya. He was born and raised in Southern Arizona. His principal composition teachers were Elinor Armer, Arturo Salinas and Larry London. He was a founding member of the now-defunct composers collective, Composers Anonymous. His works have been performed at the Third Annual Festival of New Music in Oakalnd, by Oakland Opera Theater, by sopranos Karla Sagramoso and Katya Roemer and at the Bay Area’s summer solstice event at Oakland’s Chapel of the Chimes. Celaya has sung with a variety of Bay Area and Arizona ensembles. His performances include Anthony Davis’s “X, The Life and Times of Malcom X,” Duke Ellington’s “Queenie Pie,” Stravinski’s “Rake’s Progress” and Kurt Weill’s “Johnny Johnson” with Oakland Opera Theater. He also premiered the roles of George Donner and The Great Bear of California in “Terrible Things Will Happen,” an opera on the topic of the Donner Party by Guillermo Galindo and Hugh Bem-Steinberg.
