Introduction Born in New York, I've been engaged by science, space, sports, and film for as long as I can remember. I've also been engaged by politics, starting with the 1960 presidential election. My interest was sharpened when Richard Nixon, after losing to Pat Brown in the 1962 Caifornia Gubernatorial race, infamously said, "You won't have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore." I was struck by his emotionally violent outburst, and thought it was fortunate that he was retiring from politics. Someone emotionally insecure and unstable enough to say that must be a dangerously vulnerable person who might do dangerous things if he gained a powerful position in government. Little did I know he'd make his epic comeback and become president. In the last 1960s I became politically active and have been so ever since. Raised by Moderate Republicans, I have always been attracted to progressive politics.
