| Introduction | After 46 years of being blessed with good health, I experienced a severe stroke caused by an arterial dissection in mid August of 09. I was in a very rural setting but was fortunate to be within airlift of a major medical city, and was subsequentially hopitalized for about a month (very blurry time), then in a rehab hospital for approx one more month. Initially, I lost total use of my left arm, leg, hand, and driving privileges. I had a fair amount of disorientation, and left side neglect(not noticing things to my left). Thankfully speech and facial were not effected very much, and required little effort to be considered at a very normal level.... not fully the 'me' I knew, but one that was functional. I have regain driving privliges, partial use of my left leg and hand. I am a mother of a 19 year old boy, and 3 year old quadruplets via surrogacy! |
