IntroductionI am a dyed-in-the-wool liberal Democrat, committed to social justice issues. Politically, I am liberal in outlook, in the mold of the Kennedys, Tip O’Neill, Franklin Roosevelt, and Jimmy Carter. I have worked on political campaigns or held elective office since I was seven years old! Who I'd like to meet: Let's see... all sorts of people. Benjamin Franklin, for one, so he could tell me if I came close in my stage portrayal in "1776"... and also why my damned lightning rods don't work! LOL Thomas Jefferson, so he could give me a clue on how to fix the problems we have right now. Franklin Roosevelt and Hubert Humphrey, so I could find two people who actually give a shit about others...
InterestsBasically, I have eclectic tastes, ranging from painting to writing to a voracious appetite for books and learning. My painting consists mostly of water media, some oils and acrylics. Boating, fishing, camping, hiking, biking, museums, gardening, baking (grew up in a bakery), gourmet and home style cooking, theater, cinema, old movies, writing (fiction and screenplays), and most of all, people watching! Loved to wander in Greenwich Village when I worked in New York and still do when I can get there!
Favorite movies"Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" EXCELLENT! -- Siskel and Ebert MUST SEE! -- New York Times film critics THREE THUMBS UP! -- Uncle Fester Addams To Have and Have Not, The Big Sleep, Down Periscope, The Birdcage, Bringing Up Baby, Good Night and Good Luck, The Thin Man (5 movies in series), Roman Holiday, This Matter of Marriage, Notting Hill, Battleground, My Cousin Vinny, A Prayer for the Dying, In Harm's Way, Pretty Woman, To Have and Have Not, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Bishop's Wife, Charade, Roman Holiday, Sabrina, most Greg Peck, most Cary Grant, most John Wayne stuff, pretty eclectic collection, huh? Chick flix and war flix, what a mixture! And when someone says they don't like my manners, I give 'em Phil Marlowe's answer... "And I'm not crazy about yours. I didn't ask to see you. I don't mind if you don't like my manners, I don't like them myself. They're pretty bad. I grieve over them on long winter evenings. I don't mind your ritzing me drinking your lunch out of a bottle. But don't waste your time trying to cross-examine me." -- Humphrey Bogart in "The Big Sleep" (1945)
Favorite musicDamn... so much to choose from and so little space! Hate country music and rap, although I'm pretty partial to piano jazz, fusion, classic rock (natch), The Beatles, CCR, Chicago, The Blues Brothers, Barry Manilow, Billy Joel, Dan Fogelberg, The Eagles, ELO, Jim Croce, Neil Diamond, S&;G, Steve Miller, et al.
Favorite books"I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set,I go into the other room and read a book." -- Groucho Marx Personal library is probably over 1,500 books and yes, I've read most of them, even wrote one or two. I enjoy historical fiction, historical non-fiction, crime thrillers/police procedurals (what I write, now and again), cook books (love to bake), mysteries... Favorite authors are Jack Higgins primarily, and formerly W.E.B. Griffin, although he's slipped way off the Top Ten list these days... When it comes to books, I DO judge them by their cover... at least that's why I pick them up! LOL
