| Introduction | I have sand in my shoes. Born in Jacksonville, Florida to a 19-year-old Northern Kentucky girl who was far from home with her young husband - a sailor in the United States Navy, I spent the first few years of my life a little beach baby. Mom said she would put me in the Florida sand at the ripe age of one, and I would bask in the glory of it all around me. In fact, according to her, I enjoyed it for a snack quite often…the sand, that is. She claimed she didn’t keep me from delighting in this yummy treat, because it kept me content, and in her words “it would all come back out eventually.” So, maybe that’s how it all got started. Or, perhaps it was ingrained in me from a father who loved traveling the world on an aircraft carrier? Whatever the reason, there’s nothing that provides this Ohio land-locked mother-of-two greater peace than being on the water floating aimlessly on my boat, or breathing in the fresh ocean air on the coast, or hiking among this nation's most beautiful landscapes. Lucky for me, I married a man that enjoys the sun, the water and the mountains just as much as I do. |
