| Introduction | Growing up, attending one of the worst schools in the country at that time gave me an acute awareness of the issues young people face, and moving to Lincolnshire when I was 16 showed similar issues from a different perspective. It took several years to catch up on the education I missed in London, and even doing that I ended up unemployed for several years. I then had to pay for my own higher education training to become a theatrical technician. Working in theatre has enabled me to travel all round the country, seeing the problems different communities faced. My theatrical career ended when I injured my shoulder, at the same time I got married, leaving me trying to change career in the middle of a recession. I returned to the traditional family homeland of Somerset, as the employment prospects were better for my wife. I am now a Co-Opted Parish councillor on Westfield Parish Council (also on the Environment and Development Committee) and a Governor at St Mary's School in Writhlington. I aim to do all in my power to improve the life of my community and keep it safe for all. |
