Introduction Dr. Sam Baty received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1960. He spent the next 22 years as an officer in the United States Air Force. During this time, he received a Master of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Engineering from UCLA. His last assignment in the Air Force was with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). He subsequently retired from TRW, Inc. as chief scientist of an operating unit in February, 1999. From January, 2000 to January, 2013, he taught for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), where he attained the status of adjunct professor. In 2004, he was selected as the outstanding faculty member in ERAU’s Southwest Region. In 2008, his first novel, a World War II thriller, was published.
