IntroductionThe Tamilnadu Science Forum (TNSF) is one of the "People's Science Movements" which had sprung up in free India. The TNSF was started in the year 1980. Now it has grown into a peoples movement and has a membership of 12000 including scientists, Farmers, Teachers, Women - people from almost every walk of life. The TNSF works in areas of literacy, health, education, women's empowerment, science popularization, agriculture, enterprise development, water management, ecology, environmental issues, rural technology and application of information technology in villages. The TamilNadu Science Forum(TNSF) has played a vital role in the literacy movement (popularly called as 'ARIVOLI IYAKKAM') in many districts in Tamil Nadu during 1995-97. In children's education, apart from a monthly science magazine for children in Tamil (Thulir) and another bi-monthly in English (Jantar Mantar), we have been involved in teacher training and starting of children's science clubs (Thulir Illams).
