| Introduction | Pia is an award-winning independent producer and director, and has collaborated on films for PBS/Frontline, PBS/American Experience, HBO, and MTV Networks. She has produced multimedia and audio for the Los Angeles Times, Radio Free Europe, Voice of America and local news outlets in Europe and Asia. Pia completed a feature-length independent documentary in 2006, with co-producer Sanjna Singh, titled "Out of Status" that dealt with Muslim immigrants selectively detained and deported by US immigration authorities after 9/11. The film premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival and screened at dozens of festivals in the US and abroad. "Out of Status" was reviewed by The New York Times, TV Guide, Variety, and New York Post; it had a theatrical run in New York’s Lower East Side in August 2007, and was broadcast in the UK and Spain. Pia has also created short films for the web and, till recently, was online producer at Human Rights Watch. She lives in New York City. |
