| Introduction | I work in a natural products laboratory in Iowa. We study how a specific family of chemicals are made by plants, fungi, and bacteria. In particular, I work on the biosynthetic pathway for a chemical secreted by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This chemical appears to attack our immune systems, providing an initial means of attack against our diverse immune responses. It's awesome to see how these small molecules can both help and hurt - dependent on the host or the target. |
| Interests | I'm all about science! The media interaction with research science fascinates me and I hope to communicate the amazings that research can tell us about our everyday lives! |
The squish of mud between your toes; how would you live your life as a frog?
Well...if I had webbed feet like a frog, I wouldn't have the awesome, cooling feeling of having the mud squish between my toes. However, since frogs evolve so much more quickly to environmental stimuli, if you made the earth drier for a while, maybe they would evolve toes and then they could understanding the joy of that feeling!
