| Introduction | My name is Laura, and I'm the girl behind Girl Meets WoW. By day, I'm a freelance writer in Atlanta, GA, but by night, I'm a raiding-focused arcane mage, a guild officer, and a willing slave to an ever-growing personal army of alts. A confession: I have no vast resume of gaming credentials. World of Warcraft is my first MMO, and perhaps even the first game to hit me over the head and say: You there! Girl! You are a gamer. An obsessive, completionist button-mashing levelling addict. This was something of a revelation, seeing as I grew up under a suburban rock to parents that didn't believe in videogames. (This is not an exaggeration: as a teenager, I wouldn't even have recognized the Mario theme.) These days, I'm slowly reclaiming the squandered-youth-that-might-have-been by working my way back through gaming canon, like a slow-motion film being played in reverse. With any luck, I'll eventually be disgorged from the insides of a grue, and find myself west of a white house, standing in an open field. |
