| Introduction | I write, travel, and cook. I'm not Anthony Bourdain, but a Ph.D. student working at a Research 1 institution in the Lone Star state. I have an adorable and brilliant husband, a passion for all things understood with the senses, a degree from a culinary institute, and an unexplainable need for my work to be practical outside the academy and in service to others. Combining my personal pursuits and professional interests, my dissertation looks at women's ways of enacting authority in restaurant kitchens. I study this phenomenon using the discourse analytic tradition of Interactional Sociolinguistics. |
