| Introduction | I’m Paloma Mohn, a San Diego native always chasing the next adventure. I’m passionate about astrophotography, capturing the beauty of the night sky and the mysteries of the universe. Landscape photography also fuels my soul—there’s something about being in nature, camera in hand, that makes me feel connected to the world around me. When I’m not behind the lens, I’m nurturing my deep water culture (DWC) garden, growing vegetables in aquariums, blending nature with innovation. I also love paddleboarding—the feeling of gliding across the water, syncing with the rhythm of the waves. At home, I care for my aquariums, creating tiny underwater ecosystems filled with life. My African Grey parrot, Lucky, is always by my side, adding joy to every adventure. Though I’ve called San Diego home since 24, my wanderlust never fades. By day, I work as a Clinic Research Coordinator, balancing my career with my love for discovery. Every day is a chance to explore, learn, and uncover something new—whether through a camera, a wave, or a research project. |
| Interests | In a world full of endless possibilities, my interests know no bounds! I’m constantly pulled in different directions by passions that inspire me. Whether it’s capturing the beauty of the cosmos through astrophotography or freezing the majesty of landscapes with my camera, I’m always in awe of the world around me. Photography isn’t just a hobby—it’s my way of connecting with nature and the universe, capturing fleeting moments of beauty. I’m equally fascinated by the natural world in more hands-on ways, like deep water culture (DWC) gardening, where I grow vegetables in my aquariums. It’s like creating tiny ecosystems in my living room, watching plants thrive underwater. When I’m not nurturing my plants, you’ll find me out in the wild, capturing wildlife with my camera. Paddleboarding along the coast is my favorite way to connect with nature—it’s my form of therapy and a true escape. Back on land, I’ve turned my home into a green sanctuary, surrounded by plants. Aquascaping is another passion, where I create miniature underwater worlds in my tanks. When the call of the wild beckons, I’m always ready for an adventure—whether hiking off the grid or exploring new trails. Every day is an opportunity to discover something new, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.. |
| Favorite movies | I’ve always been drawn to futuristic dystopias and epic space operas, with classics like Blade Runner and Star Wars holding a special place in my heart. The allure of these timeless stories never gets old, but lately, I’ve been feeling a bit disillusioned. The second Dune movie was a huge disappointment for me—I had such high hopes after the first one, but it didn’t live up to the depth and richness of the original material. It felt like a missed opportunity, and I left the theater feeling let down. As for Star Wars, I can't help but feel that Disney has really ruined it. The sequels lacked the heart and magic that made the original trilogy so iconic, and the entire franchise just lost its spark. It's frustrating because I grew up with Star Wars, and seeing it mishandled like this has been tough. That said, my love for the fantastical still stands, and I find solace in older films that capture that sense of wonder and adventure. Blast from the Past, for example, takes me back to simpler times and reminds me of how good nostalgic films can be. I’m also drawn to speculative fiction in general, always looking forward to new adaptations, even though I approach them with a bit more caution now. Historical dramas also remain a constant favorite, especially when they bring past eras to life in a way that feels rich and authentic. It's a bittersweet mix, but I’m always hopeful that a great new story is just around the corner, even if some of the recent ones haven’t quite hit the mark. |
| Favorite music | My music collection is a rich and ever-evolving tapestry that reflects my diverse moods and interests. I’m deeply drawn to the raw energy of post-punk, with Joy Division providing haunting melodies that offer moments of reflection. Alongside that, I love the infectious beats of electronic music, which energize me when I need a jolt. As an electronic synth fanatic, I’ve been captivated by the genre for years—starting with early pioneers like Gershon Kingsley and his groundbreaking track Popcorn, which was one of the first to really spark my love for synthesizers. Goa trance, with its hypnotic rhythms and psychedelic soundscapes, is another genre that never fails to lift my spirit and get me lost in its grooves. But it’s not all about intensity—sometimes I crave the laid-back, feel-good vibes of reggae and ska. Pato Banton and Steel Pulse bring that positive energy and soulful rhythm that always makes me smile, while Concrete Blonde delivers raw, emotional rock that resonates with me deeply. Echo & the Bunnymen add a moody, atmospheric touch to my playlists, with their blend of post-punk and new wave that never fails to transport me to another time and place. Lorde Heron brings a more modern, ethereal sound with their dreamy vocals and introspective lyrics, and Missing Persons—with Dale Bosnio’s quirky, new wave style—offers something playful and experimental when I want to mix things up. Whether it’s the haunting melancholy of Joy Division, the soaring synths of Goa trance, or the high-energy pop vibes of Nina Hagen, my musical tastes are as varied as my moods. Each genre and artist I listen to brings out a different side of me, and together they create a soundtrack to my life—one that is always evolving, always surprising, and always full of new layers to discover. |
| Favorite books | My literary tastes are a mix of everything, reflecting my eclectic curiosity. I’m drawn to stories that explore the complexities of the human psyche—Crime and Punishment, for example, where the psychological tension is so thick you can almost feel the characters' guilt and torment. I also love mythologies, those timeless stories that shape our collective consciousness and offer insight into how different cultures understand life and death. I’m a sucker for biographies too—they let me step into the lives of extraordinary people who’ve shaped history. Reading about their struggles and triumphs gives me a chance to experience their world and understand the forces that drove them. History books are another obsession of mine; I can lose myself tracing humanity’s journey from ancient times to the present. It’s humbling to see how much has happened and how history continues to repeat itself. Nautical history is a constant fascination—there’s something about the sea, the vast unknown, that captures my imagination. Tales of exploration remind me of life’s own adventure: venturing into the unknown, confronting mysteries, and seeking discovery. Each book I read offers a new perspective, and I’m always chasing that next adventure. |
