| Introduction | Two lone lenses in the wilderness of non photographers come together against a common foe... as the son of one and the husband of another I would like to introduce The Beret and The Akubra. The Beret is Mick Newing, a Sony wielding Englishman now living in France and time abundant. The Akubra is his daughter-in-law Karen Newing, an Australian armed with a trusted Nikon and not enough time. The idea, other than to reduce spiralling phone bills was to set a topic a week which would allow them both to interpret, shoot, process and compare the way they see the world through their lenses. So welcome to Beret’s and Akubra’s where a common love of good food, red wine, unpasteurised brie, decent port and photography brings together two different views on the same subject, not a competition, except the inevitable Australia vs. England rivalry - more a way for two f-stop addicts to share a common love, without the blank expressions of their partners..... |
