About me

IntroductionMy admiration of indigenous cultures began in early childhood. The allure of these remarkable cultures eventually spurred studies in anthropology, psychology, and genetics (University of Waterloo, Psychology 1987). Simultaneously I pursued a ten-year career in commercial aviation. I piloted single- & multi-engine land and floatplanes, acquiring nearly 6,000 hours of flight time. In 1992, I began an ethnographic study of the Modern Maya. In 1993 I relocated to Mexico, traveling from homebase in Playa del Carmen (then a tiny fishing village), throughout Mesoamerica. I continue this research, returning frequently to stay with four different Maya groups in their homes: Mopan and K'ekchi (Belize), Northern Lacandon (Mexico),& Mam (Guatemala). When I lived in Mexico, visitors from around the world purchased my watercolour paintings, attended my lecture and slide presentations about the Maya and their ancient archaeological sites, and followed my guided expeditions to a nearby aviary and archaeological sites. Her lecture circuit continues in Canada using images of nature, travel, and wildlife in addition to those of the Modern Maya peoples and their ancient cities.
