| Introduction | I was born in Whitehaven, Cumberland on Monday 28 October 1957 - the day the BBC launched its morning news programme "Today". Brought up in a Cumbrian farming family, I still live within 10 miles of Whitehaven, can speak with or without a strong cumbrian accent and have been prompted to record my memories on a "blog" by the "Today50" project.
